I have to make a comment about auto ranging DMMs. I have been fooled a couple of times by mine, because I was expecting no voltage, checking a 120v A/C circuit, and was surprised by it showing 120. Only after several minutes of "what in the world" thinking did I raalize it was 120 micro-volts. So they can be helpful, but you have to remember to look at the range it chooses.
Correct, which I tend to do now, or grab my older manual DMM. But is has unfortunately given me a skewed view of the auto ranging, which I am trying to overcome.

Absolutely and if in doubt the meter will allow selecting the scale manually.
